Aussie fans to be hit with a 67% price rise to watch Premier League

Premier League fans in Australia will have to fork out more money next season to follow their favourite competition after Optus Sports confirmed it would hike subscriptions prices.

The broadcaster said on Sunday that from August 1 a monthly subscription will cost $24.99 a month, while a 12-month subscription will set fans back $199.

By comparison, a monthly pass this season cost $14.99 with the annual fee coming in at $139, meaning the new plans will be 67 percent more expensive.

Watching the Premier League in Australia will be a lot more expensive from next season

The streaming service said eligible Optus customers will be offered a discounted monthly subscription for $6.99. 


Optus recently secured exclusive Premier League rights for another six years starting from next season, as well as locking down exclusive rights for the FA Women's Super League (WSL) and https://images.google.co.bw/url?q=https://livematchestoday.com will be the main Australian broadcaster of the Women's World Cup next year.

In a statement, the broadcaster said the price increase 'compares favourably with other content streaming services that have emerged in the Australian landscape and is the first change to Optus Sport's pricing since we first launched in 2016.'

It added: 'We want you to know that we're fully committed to providing value for money, so from August, all live and on-demand Premier League matches will be available to stream in 1080p HD on supported devices.

Optus Sports also extended its broadcasting deal for the FA Women's Super League 

'That means you can watch all the action from the world's best league in exceptional detail.' 

The increase, however, will stretch soccer fans in Australia even further, due to the increasingly fragmented nature of the broadcasting spectrum.

Aside from the Premier League and the WSL, Optus also shows the J-League and selected international matches. 

But it lost the rights to UEFA competitions to Stan Sport last year 

However, it lost the rights to the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League to Stan Sport last year, while a Paramount+ subscription is required to watch every A-League game.

Additionally, Serie A, Bundesliga and LaLiga are shown on beIN Sports, which is accessible via Kayo.

Once Optus' price changes become effective, subscribing to all four broadcasters could cost north of $80 a month.
